McGowan Family Law was established by Rebecca McGowan in 2007. McGowan Family Law provides exclusive family law advice and services in a boutique sized firm.We are dedicated to servicing the needs of our clients with an emphasis on “service and attention to your individual needs. We limit the number of clients that we act for to ensure that each client is serviced appropriately with a focus on working towards a resolution in a cost effective manner
We really do care about you and your family and our mission is to provide personalised service in a timely manner.
Each family law matter is unique and it is necessary to spend time with our clients to ensure that
appropriate advice is provided; that is why we will not give you quick
advice over the telephone.
It is not possible in family law to give standard advice as each situation and each family is unique. We endeavour to provide our clients with the information and advice that is required for informed decisions to be made.
You can be assured that we will listen to you carefully so that we understand your situation and advise you appropriately Where you have children our advice will always be child focused with an emphasis on the best interests of the children.

Prior to offering her specialised service at McGowan Family Law Rebecca McGowan worked at Graham Sievers and Lee Lawyers in Essendon and Sunshine and headed the family law section of Sievers Lee Lawyers in Sunshine before working as a Senior Associate at Berry Family Law in Williamstown and Melbourne.
She has practiced exclusively in family law since 2002. Rebecca McGowan attained a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Legal Studies and minoring in Women’s Studies) in 1999 from Latrobe University.
She then attained a Bachelor of Laws in 2002. She was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia on 31 March, 2003.
Rebecca McGowan has handled a variety of complex matters including complicated trials that involve property and children’s matters. She has clients throughout Australia and overseas. Rebecca McGowan has recently served on the Children and Youth Issues Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria and is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.
She has volunteered at the Darebin Community Legal Centre, assisted women in the Dame Phyllis Frost Correctional Centre and assisted in the child parole officer area.
Elisa joined McGowan Family Law in June 2009.
Elisa attained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne in 2007.
She was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia on 18 February 2008. Prior to joining McGowan Family Law Elisa worked at a general law practice in Werribee providing services in both property and children’s family law matters. She also provided service in intervention orders, wills and estates and criminal matters.
Elisa is committed to providing legal advice in a professional, yet understanding manner. She believes in working with clients to find fair and practical solutions to their family law issues.
Jennifer (Jen) joined McGowan Family Law in April 2010.
Jen comes from a background in the legal reception area and has settled in very well to the firm. Jen is very approachable and willing to assist you with any queries you may have.
